It's next to Aluminé lake, counting on an important
structure of services. The town is less than 20 years
old, a few more than 1000 inhabitants, but it became an
attractive tourist center in the lakes corridor. It has
inns, cabins, restaurants with diverse gastronomy,
organized camping, drugstores, public telephone, gas
station and even one selfcash.
Villa Pehuenia possesses a beautiful natural
surrounding, near Moquehue lake - also with lodging and
camping- and Icalma pass (to Chile). Its location is
strategic in the Pehuenia tour, named as that because of
being the zone with the best pure or mixed araucaria
araucana forests. (See Pehuen in Flora ).
Since 2000 it has a small ski center in Batea Mahuida
mountain, managed by Puel mapuche community.
It is also a good place for sport fishing.
If you enter the region by route 23, you will end the
tour by provincial route 11 to Ñorquinco lake and from
there, along Pulmarí river, to Alumine; or across the
frontier by Icalma so to visit Conguillío Park, around
Llaima volcano, in Chile. |
