Located in the southest point of Neuquen province - with
11.300 inhabitants and more than 4.000 beds-, it is
called like that because of the isthmus or "narrowness"
of Quetrihué peninsula. Along last ten years, the town
became the second tourist center in the province and
it's growing quite fast.
Villa La Angostura, on the NW side of Nahuel Huapi lake,
at 820 m.o.s.l. and on a typical mountain zone, sits on
the foot of three hills: Bayo, Inacayal and Belvedere.
The tourism in the village is quite familiar. In winter,
the best attractive is Cerro Bayo, a ski center for
different winter sports, for experts and beginners.
The options for summer include lake outings, fishing
trips, nautical sports, mountaineering, horse riding,
four wheel excursions, walking, trekking and tours,
being possible to hire tourist guides.
Famous all over the world, short Correntoso river, which
joins Correntoso lake to Nahuel Huapi, is a remarkable
place for fly casting. This area is developing into a
modern and select residential zone. The same happened to
Bahía Manzano, today full of exclusive inns and stylish
cabins and houses.
Villa La Angostura owns the only access to well known
Arrayanes National Park.
Brief history
The area occupied by Villa La Angostura didn't have stable
population in the past, because of the rough winter. It was
used by the tehuelche people as a hunting or grazing place,
moving across the lake by boats made in trunks. They were
expeled out by Gral. Villegas in 1881. Alter that, new native
and Spanish people became settlers, as europeans came from
Chile.
Villa La Angostura was officially founded on 15th mayo,1932.
