Plaza Huincul, Zapala, Pino Hachado, Villa Pehuenia.
At Plaza Huincul, visit Carmen Funes
Museum, which has a rejoinder of the
Argentinosaurus huinculensis. Discovered
in 1988, it had 100 tons, 38 m lenght
and took its little head 25 m over the
floor.
At Zapala, you can turn to the north and
visit Caviahue/Copahue or take route 23,
towards the mountains. You will go
across a pure araucaria forest and
Litrán river valley to Villa Pehuenia,
by Aluminé lake.
If your choice is to go to Caviahue/
Copahue along Route 21, at only 54
Km.lies Las Lajas, by Agrio river. Don't
hesitate to go up along RN 40 towards
Chos Malal, (see North Neuquen). You can
also do that from Caviahue, across El
Huecú, El Cholar and Andacollo. You will
discover a never imagined world. The
dirt roads are usually in good
conditions.
If you decide to return as soon as
posible to the corridor, from Zapala to
Villa Pehuenia you'll spend three hours
of unforgetable landscapes. The shortest
way to "circuito Pehuenia" goes along
road 13, paved untill Primeros Pinos (a
small snow park), and continue across
"Pampa de Lonco Luán", an ecological
disaster due to the overpasture in
fragile and volcanic soils.
¿Have you heard about Laguna Blanca
National Park? It protects a rich bird
community living there, specially the
black necked swan. It lies near Zapala,
taking route 40 and later a detour by
road 46, in Rahue - Aluminé direction.
It owns a camping sector and visitor
center.
If you continue along RN 40, you will
reach La Rinconada, entering the
corridor by Junín de los Andes/ San
Martín de los Andes/.
