El Chocón, Piedra del Águila, Junín de los Andes
If you choose RN 237, 75 km after Neuquén,you will arrive at
Chocon dam, with Ramos Mexia lake, which water generates
electricity as soon as its shores offer tourist attractions.

The village, built for the dam builders, today has all the
services, including a hotel, restaurant, camping, yacht club
and shopping center. Tourism office in the access. It worth
while to detour for two hours in order to visit the Bachman
museum, where the Giganotosaurus carolinii is shown. It was
discovered by Rubén Carolini -a mechanic and amateur
palaeontologist, today director of the place. More than 80% of
the skeleton is preserved. You will also see archeological
remains of ancient inhabitants of the area. Close to the
village, on the shore of the lake, there are dinosaur's
footprints, with interpretative panels. There are very few in
the world which such a good access for the visitors.
Piedra del Águila
Founded in 1897, it grew along 70's decade due to the building
of several big hidroelectrical? dams. Today, all of them
finished, its almost 4.000 inhabitants work mostly on services
for the tourism, as a passing trough area. Besides the gas
stations, there are hotels, restaurants, museum, visitor
center and several services.
If you are a fisherman, get information about the theme by the
ACA, as the activity has been increased thanks to the new
lakes of the dams. You can even bath in Pichi Picún Leufú
lake, with a sand shore and services.
Returning along route 237, after Collón Cura slope, you'll
find two ways: along the bridge you will reach Villa Traful /
Villa La Angostura / Bariloche. Or you can take route 40,
towards Junín de los Andes/ San Martín de los Andes/ 7 Lagos.
ATTENTION: If you pass trough Zapala or Piedra del Aguila
between december 28/12 and february 26, in your way to the
andean corridor, you'll need to make reservations.
