Pucón, vista panorámica.
Beside Villarrica lake, on the feet of the volcano of
the same name and 90 Km. from the frontier with
Argentina (by Mamuil Malal/Tromen Pass), this small town
became a prosperous tourist city with international
level lodging.
It was founded by Gral. Urrutia in 1883 as an army fort
to be protected from the natives which argentine army
forced to go across the range.
Until 1940, when the road along the Villarrica lake's
coast was made, the only way to get Pucon was
navigating.
Pucón offers several options for enjoying nature,
sports, emotion, relax and entertainment.
It is near an active and snowy volcano, several warm
lakes, a large river, and everything connected to
National Parks. There also are many thermal sources with
modern lodging and recreational structure.
Though you can see Pucón in a day- entering early in the
morning through Tromen- we suggest for the beginning to
spend there at least a couple of nights. Don't be
limited to walk along O´Higgins avenue, if you want to
know Pucón. Go, by car or on foot, along Ansorena st
towards the volcano, and then go up to the Clarisas
monastery. There, a lookout embraces all the city.
Te road to Villarrica is becoming a suburban zone plenty
of tourist lodging and residential houses of high
quality, as it also happens with the road to the
volcano.
In this side of the range the precipitation is greater;
in the national parks you can see similar vegetation as
in the argentine parks, but with a higher growing of the
valdivian forest. However, outside the parks, the
landscape is more like a meadowland, as it was modified
by men.
The demographic density in this part of Chile is higher
than in the argentine side, so agriculture, livestock
and forestry displaced the southern woods.
