Lanín Volcano. Photo: Ulises
Lying on the south side of Chimehuín river, it became
one of the most interesting option for adventure tourism
and sport fishing lovers.
Founded in 1883, today it counts on almost 13.000
inhabitants. It's the oldest town in the region; it was
born in the line of forts which marked the military
advance over the territory, then under mapuche control.
In the town and the outskirts, there is lodging of
different level (more than 800 beds) and two organized
camping close to downtown, besides a great variety of
restaurants.
Junín de los Andes, Trout National Capital city, owns
over a range of 50 km, the best sites for sport fishing.
Each lagoon, stream or river, is proper for this
activity. Quilquihue, Collón Cura, and Aluminé rivers,
for example, together with Chimehuín river's mouth, at
Huechulafquen lake, well known as one of the better
places for fly cast in the world; only 25km from Junin.
In the other hand, 13 hunting preserves of Lanin
National Park offer, with the private ones, a lot of
opportunities for deer and wild boars hunting.
The environment is different from the tourist centers of
the lakes zone. It is less rainy - so there are no woods
- and during the year there are more sunny days.
Rivers and mountains of this transitional zone between
steppe and the Andean forest, show interesting
conditions for activities of increasing demanding, as
rafting, canoeing, bird watching, riding and trekking.
The mountain climbing here has Lanin volcano (3.776 m)
as a protagonist, receiving national and foreign
climbers.
