Paso Tromen
|
|
|
|
Paso Pichachén |
|
127 km from Chos Malal,
passing El Cholar. This old pass was used by pehuenches and
spanish from Chile to seek salt -abundant in the north of
Neuquen- and it's known as "Boquete de Antuco", because of the
volcano of almost 3.000 m.o.s.l. NW from the pass at 2.000
m.s.n.m. I'ts not able for all kind of vehicles, ask at
Gendarmería post. Ideal for a short visit to Los Angeles
(Chilean one, of course). If you return on the same day, go
along Pan American route to Temuco and come back by Lakes
corridor. |

Pino Hachado
|
|
Paso Pino Hachado |
|
Height: 1864 m.s.n.m.,52 Km.
from Las Lajas, 40 from Villa Pehuenia and 70 to Lonquimay
(Chile). A picturesque pass. See section " necessary documents
to pass abroad". |
|
|
|
Paso Carirriñe |
|
If you decide to go on, you
will find Carirriñe pass (ask, it's not always open). After
crossing it, a nice little town -Liquiñe- offers thermal
recreational structure and other options: access to
Panguipulli, Lican Ray, Villarrica, Pucón and Panamerican
route. The crossing worth while, as everything in the Chilean
side. Just an advice: if you plan to come back in the same
day, confirm the closing time of the frontier. Closer gas
station at Coñaripe. |
|
|
|
Paso Icalma |
|
From Villa Pehuenia take RP
13 towards La Angostura, and then to the right: there you'll
find the argentine custom-house. In the Chilean side, you'll
find the custom-house by Icalma town.
From there you have 1 hour to Conguillio Nacional Park (60.000
ha. surrounding Llaima volcano). 3 hours for Temuco and
panamerican route; the same time for Villarrica and Pucón.
Gas at Melipeuco or Lonquimay. The zone is picturesque but the
roads are not really good. |
|
|
|
Paso Mamuil Malal / Tromen |
|
Connects Villarrica and Pucon to San Martin/Junin de los
Andes. |
|
|
|
Paso Hua Hum |
|
You have to do the procedure
at the custom and afterwards at the gendarmería post. (See
Papers for crossing the frontier). Hua Hum is the only pass
opened the whole year, as it's only 625 m.o.s.l. In the
Chilean side, you have to cross Pirehueico lake by a modern
ferryboat. It's an interesting trip along a lake originated by
the volcanism, which closed the Pirehueico valley hundreds
years ago. On the volcanic rocks there is the Huilo Huilo
water fall.
Chilean side. At Pirehueico port, there's a storehouse, cabins
and canopy
You can go by this pass and return on the same day. After Pto.
Fuy - you can:
a) Return by Liquiñe - Carirriñe pass to Junín/San Martín.
There are thermal baths at Liquiñe and Epulafquen. Check that
Carirriñe is open.
b) From Liquiñe go on towards Coñaripe (thermal baths)-Lican
Ray-Villarrica-Pucón, returning by Tromen pass.
c) Panguipulli - Panamerican route - Temuco, Valdivia or
Llanquihue lake - Puerto Varas-Puerto Montt.

|
Paso Cardenal Samoré |
|
From the village, take RN
231 towards the west. Alter 10 Km. turn to the left. First you
will find the gendarmería post and then the custom building.
In the Chilean side, paved route. On the way towards Osorno
you'll find good thermal baths at Puyehue; gas station at
Entre Lagos. Once in the Panamerican route, you could choose
to go to the north (Valdivia and Temuco) or to the south
(Puerto Montt and Chiloé). |
|
|
|
Paso Pérez Rosales |
|
Whole day excursion. After
1.30 hs of navigation, passing in front of Centinela island,
which shelters P. Moreno's grave, you'll get Port Blest, a
wonderful place in the range's heart, where the luxury and
diversity of the wood in an quite humid environment, will
remind you the rain forest.in fact here grows the valdivian
forest. You'll find an interesting interpretation center and
lodging. You can also walk along a self guided path.
A short trip by bus will take you to Frías lake, and then
again on a boat up to port Frias. There starts the road to
Chile by Pérez Rosales pass (see Puerto Montt) and the well
known trekking Paso de las Nubes (Clouds pass).
Back to Port Blest by the same route, the last stage of the
excursion is to climb a long stair to Los Cantaros waterfall
and the lake of the same name.

|
|
Paso Futaleufú |
|
Follow route 259 towards the
south. At Trevelin ends the pavement. Very soon, the road goes
beside Futaleufú river, which you'll cross after the
Gendarmery post (migration procedure). Continue 11 Km.up to
small chilean town Futaleufú, of picturesque houses and scarce
tourist structure. Futaleufú river, in the chilean side, has
famous rapids, well known abroad. If you want to go on in
chilean territory, you'll have to continue along a dirt,
winding and rough road, up to the connection with the Austral
route. This one will take you to Chaitén, and then by boat you
could reach Quellón (Chiloé island) or Puerto Montt. |
